The Franciscan Family of Greensboro (FFG) is a Fraternity within the Secular Franciscan Order (OFS), an official Order within the Catholic Church, established by St. Francis of Assisi himself early in the thirteenth century. Ordinarily we do not live in community; rather, we live with our families and perform our jobs out in the world, gathering in fraternities on a regular monthly basis. In these gatherings the brothers and sisters, led by the Spirit, strive for ongoing daily conversion and to be faithful to the Gospel. We seek, with and only with God’s grace, perfect charity in our secular state, helping one another in this journey closer to Christ, following in the footsteps of St. Francis and St. Clare. Through a spirit of prayer, love and example, we joyfully seek to grow in the Franciscan family through the building up of the Church and by witnessing to the Gospel through action.
In fraternity we pray together, learn together, serve together, and strive to grow as members in our Franciscan Spirituality and way of life. The Franciscan model for fraternity life is the Trinity. We are in a relationship, a community of equals with the Holy Spirit as their Minister. The Fraternity helps us to live in today’s world by going from gospel to life and life to the gospel. By respecting and encouraging each other’s gifts and uniqueness we help to shape a fraternity that builds a more fraternal world and helps us to serve as witness to the kingdom of God.
